Join us and make an impact

As a hospice volunteer, one will be able to dictate the frequency and types of acts you’d wish to participate in. At Advantage Health Systems hospice, we rely on our volunteers to be present and provide vital sources of joy, laughter, and companionship. Some examples of typical volunteer duties are:

  • Actively listening to a patient’s concerns

  • Offering a comforting and supportive presence

  • Engaging in patient’s hobbies, board games, and/or discussing current events

  • Running errands and/or doing light meal preparation for the patient

  • Inviting a patient to share their life story and support creating a legacy project for their loved ones.

  • Providing brief respite for families or caregivers during one’s day

PET THERAPY VOLUNTEERSVolunteers provide support in many ways with the help of their furry friends, such as to enhance the patient's quality of life, provide companionship, and even provide bereavement support to the family after a patient passes. With Advantage, our pet therapy volunteers have been able to visit with our patients and/or their families within individual or group sessions, depending on the need. It has been our experience that our four-legged friends provide great stimulus for patients, especially those living with dementia.

QUILT (OR SEW) SOME COMFORTDo you enjoy sewing or quilting? Advantage Hospice invites you to join our "Crafts of Comfort" team! Volunteers with your talent, compassion, and creativity, can make a life-long difference to individuals grieving the loss of a loved one. As a Crafts of Comfort volunteer, you will use the clothing items of a loved one who has passed to create a "Memory Bear" or "Mini-Quilt" for individuals that have experienced a loss. Each creation is truly one-of-a-kind and is so meaningful to the families we serve.

VETERANS & ACTIVE DUTY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITYHere at Advantage Health Systems hospice, we honor our Active Duty and Veteran's as well as recognizing such skill, experience and compassion volunteers have to offer. Our Veteran patients feel more connected to volunteers with military background, or involvement, because of their special bond forged through service to our Nation. Volunteers have an opportunity to take part in honoring our Veteran patients by listening to their stories and commemorating their legacy.

GRIEF AND LOSS VOLUNTEER

Do you have a passion for helping those who are grieving or dealing with the recent loss of a loved one?
We are seeking compassionate and caring individuals, like yourself, to volunteer their time, making supportive follow-up calls to bereaved families and loved ones.

Bereavement volunteers provide support, while exercising active listening skills, assistance and other supportive services. Once fully trained and oriented with the process, volunteers have the option to help from the comfort of their own homes.

Every hospice volunteer has something special and significant to contribute, and we welcome and encourage new ideas. Please reach out if you think this sounds like you so we can provide more information!
